With so much felt leftover I decided to make a “Pin the Hat on the Monster” felt board. I made little party hats also out of felt and attached a small piece of velcro to the back for extra grip. Pin the Eye would have been fun but being a monster, the eyes could have gone anywhere. For the blindfold, I made three felt eyes attached together then sewn onto a strip of elastic.
After Easter I found a croquet set on clearance for $1.50. I easily customized it with punched out images of our monsters glued over the existing numbers.
There were coloring pages as well. I was happy that the children actually colored these. My original plan was to hang them with mini clothespins as Prudent Baby had done, but due to the wind I ended up taping the pictures to the window.
If you haven’t considered a “photo booth” for a party, I highly recommend that you do. It’s very inexpensive and a lot of fun. I would have encouraged more kids (and adults) to participate if I wasn’t so busy. All it takes is a couple yards of fabric and some silly props. Next time I plan on using a cute shower curtain for extra fabric coverage to accommodate a large group. I purchased the googly eyes and green horns from Oriental Trading Company. The quality was horrible but the kids had a blast with them. The eyes were just black felt circles glued on top of larger white circles and then sewn onto strips of elastic. The orange felt horns I made the morning of the party using this tutorial.
For Maysoon’s gift we got her a bounce house which also served as entertainment for the kids. It doesn’t hurt that Jenin is obsessed with them either.
Hands down, the most entertaining aspect of the party was my little sister Affnan. She played all sorts of games including “Monster Says” and musical chairs. She sang songs and lead a conga line. The party wouldn’t have been such a success without her. She also made the fruit kabobs for lunch. Thanks Affnan!
I’m very blessed to be surrounded by great friends and family that were willing to help me with anything I needed. I asked a couple of people to help me cook for the party. I didn’t want to order pizza so I decided on a tasty menu that would serve a lot without being expensive. Everyone enjoyed their food and were filled long enough to get them through the party until dessert.
Shall we now have dessert?
