Goldilocks and the Three Bears Craft

The kindergartners went through quite a few fairy tales as they ended out the year. Goldilocks and the Three Bears was one of the classics that they touched on.

For the first time ever, Pinterest failed me while searching for an idea for a suitable craft. I expected pin after pin of adorable ideas. Nope. But I did see this super cute party. What did come up was a project similar to what the students have done in the past, so we went with that.

The inspiration didn’t include any details to create the project so I winged it. I created a basic template for all the bears. Some parts were simple shapes that had to be altered by the students to achieve the desired shape. Other parts were more straightforward.

For bears:

Brown construction paper and patterned or colored paper for accessories. Faces drawn on.

For Goldilocks:

Manila paper, yellow construction paper, patterned or colored paper for accessories. Faces drawn on.

Unfortunately I forgot to write down the exact dimensions of the pieces I cut for the templates. I realize that would have been much more beneficial for other kindergarten teachers (or homeroom moms) trying to create this project for the class. I’ll give you the basic shapes, approximate sizes, and some tips to create your own.

Bears:

  • 1 large oval -body
  • 1 smaller oval – head
  • 1 - 1×10 (fold in half, cut on fold) – legs
  • 1 -1×8 (fold in half, cut on fold) – arms
  • 2 – 2 x 2 (fold in half, round off top) – shoes
  • 2 – 2.5 x 2.5(fold in half, round off top) – outer ears
  • 2 – 1.5 x 1.5 (fold in half, round off top) – inner ear
  • Snout – depends on the size of your head (well not yourhead, but the bear’s)
  • Hands – Draw basic template. Draw two.
  • Accessories: Bow tie/bow – 3.5 x 3.5 (fold in half, leaving an inch in the middle, cut towards outer edges) Bib/Apron – Cut a square to fit inside of the body you’ve created. Fold in half and round off the bottom.
  • Draw on face

Goldilocks:

  • Head, arms, legs, shoes, bows – same as bears
  • Hair – 4 1.5 x 12 strips. Roll around a pencil or crayon to achieve the curls. Bangs – trace to be the same size as the head. Make 1.5-2 inches thick. This will be a template piece for the kids.
  • Hands – Draw basic template. Draw two.
  • Dress – Cut rectangle to be the same size as bear’s body (this will ensure projects are similar in size). Kids will cut off a portion from the edges to create the dress
  • Draw on face

Here are my sample pieces I gave the teacher:

In addition to this project, the teacher had the students draw out their interpretations of the stories. Those are the pictures that are shown behind the projects.
