Mandatory resolution post

2010. Double digits ya’ll.

What is it about January 1st that get’s us all excited for change? Why can’t it be the day after our birthdays? Or at the start of spring? Yesterday is still yesterday and tomorrow will still be tomorrow. It’s not like there’s a “restore to default” button we can press at 12 am. Ha! How cool would that be?  Now I’m not trying to start a revolution and end the celebration of New Years.  It was just a thought I’d throw out into the blog world.

As for resolutions, I’d rather have intentions for this new year.  In Islam, God rewards you for your good intentions even if you don’t follow through with the act. Pretty sweet.

My intentions for 2010:

Be proactive about my health. I have a family history of diabetes and heart disease. A very scary thought. I eat pretty healthy but I do not exercise. I just want to find a exercise program that I can stick to. Nothing complicated or fancy. I was walking 2 hours for 3 days a week with my best friend but it was hard to stick to for various reasons.  This year I will make my health a priority. Prevention, prevention, prevention!

Create a comfortable home. Seriously, there’s no place like home.  When I insist on having our house tidy, my husband says I act like a drill sergeant. But then again he isn’t the one that has to clean up after everyone.  I want my family to be able to relax, play, and be at ease when we’re home together. I’m thinking stainproof fabrics, physical games vs ones with a ton of parts, and mini hand vac should help.

Eat good. Not just healthy, but interesting foods. New foods. Good food. There are times when I’ll cook just because I have to get some sort of meal on the table. Flavor is lacking or just completely off.  I’m not a bad cook, but I’m not a great one.  I hope to try at least two new recipes per week and improve the dishes I currently cook now.

Be smart with my money. Plain and simple: If I don’t need it, don’t buy it.  Those little red Target stickers will not get the best of me!  If I buy something it should be about quality.  A lot of times I’ve purchased things that were more affordable but turned out to be lacking quality. If I have to spend more to get something that has staying power, so be it.

Use my hands. I’ve hoarded a ton of crafting/sewing supplies.  I must use up at least 50% of the stuff I have this year. Whatever doesn’t get used will be given away. Plus I can’t buy anything else unless it’s glue or thread. I hope that seeing me work on projects will encourage my girls to be creative as they grow up.

Amnah + Rami. Ever since I’ve had kids it’s been all about them.  It’s time I figure out how to find balance and give our marriage the time it needs and deserves.

Make my home mine. I want my home to reflect my style and beliefs. A lot of things I like don’t go down well with everyone. And that’s fine with me.  I want my surroundings to make me happy. I’m not decorating for anyone except myself. Okay, well maybe for Iman’s approval too.

You get the idea.  Happy new year lovely readers.
