April Posts on DisneyBaby

Zaynab with Bubbles

I’ve completed my first month blogging over at DisneyBaby.com!  Phew! What a month it was.  The great thing is that I was blogging regularly.  The downside is that it wasn’t here.  No worries, dear readers.  This month was a learning experience.  I’m well on my way to a more consistent blogging schedule over here.  Bear with me, I promise it’ll be worth it. If you miss my presence over here, head over to read my posts on DisneyBaby.com. This month’s posts: Zaynab’s first experience with bubbles. A party feature of Maysoon’s First Monster Birthday Party. My favorite pictures of Baby Z on Instagram. A quick and easy recipe for some yummy baked oatmeal. A round-up of 20+ beautiful art prints inspired by … Continue reading

Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia

Amnah and Daughters

My number one recommendation for places to visit in Kuala Lumpur is the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia.  The beauty, culture, history, architecture…everything is just perfect [in my book].  I spent h o u r s there.  I would have taken much longer, or even returned, if I could have. I read just about every plaque attached to each artifact, took pics of practically everything in there, and just stood in awe and amazement of everything before me.  One of my favorite nerdy things to do, is to imagine what life was like centuries ago.  Each case housed items that I imagined being used before my eyes.  Clothing fit for royalty. Handwritten Qur’anic verses on gloriously decorated pages.  Pottery that held the … Continue reading

Batik Painting at the Craft Complex

batik paints

Of course I would do a craft while on vacation.  Probably my first in months.  Between school, daily household chores, three little kiddos, and life in general, it’s been a while since I’ve gotten glue/paint/glitter on my hands. When my sister first visited Malaysia prior to moving there, she brought back an adorable hand painted Batik of a giraffe.  With Jenin’s love of painting, I knew it was somewhere I really wanted to take the girls. The Craft Complex, or Kompleks Budaya Kraf, is situated close to downtown.  It’s a beautiful setting consisting of a main building with a great gift shop and numerous hut style cottages throughout the grounds.  Tropical tree lined pathways lead to each hut.  We only … Continue reading

Little Guy, Big News

News reveal

For a long time I searched for a Muslim mom voice in the blogosphere.  I never found anything that clicked 100%, so I changed the direction of my own personal blog to fit that bill. I wanted to create a place for like minded Muslim moms to come and have a person to relate to and connect with. Soon moms from all over the globe were contacting me and I quickly realized it’s a small world after all.  The blogosphere had a new Muslim Mom blogger voice, albeit a tiny one. What I didn’t realize was that some pretty big ears were listening. Every now and then, the circle of life (children/home/husband) would cause my blogging to pause. “You threw … Continue reading

Masjid Wilayah

baby zellij

Prior to visiting Malaysia, I made my sister a list of things I wanted to see and do.  Yes, I made her an official list.  We’re cool like that.  Included in the “must dos” were eating, hanging out, eating, and anything and everything that featured Islamic architecture.  I could stare at the gorgeous carvings, patterns, and colors all day long.  And sometimes I did.  And sometimes we were late picking up her kids.  Oops! The first of our Kuala Lumpur mosque tour was Masjid Wilayah.  It’s actually quite new, less than 15 years old.  It was quite stunning.  So many awe inspiring details.  It was love at first sight when I saw the cobalt, emerald, and mustard zellij wall. It’s … Continue reading

A Bit of KL

ice lemon tea

So, surely you’ve noticed my absence around here.(You did miss me, right?)  However, if you’ve been following along my Facebook page and Instagram, you’d know that the girls and I were vacationing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!  We flew half way around the world to visit my BFF/sister Iman.  Never in a million years did I think I’d have the chance to travel to this tropical Muslim country.  The opportunity arose and I knew it was now or never. Carpe diem! This post will highlight just a bit of our travels in KL.  With over 2,000 pictures taken, not including the ones my sisters took, I have quite a bit of images to sift through and edit.  I’ll go into detail … Continue reading

Parent of a Teen Survival Kit

Parent of a Teen Survival Kit 4

My teenage years aren’t too far behind me.  Just about coughadecadecough or so ago.  Those were some tough years.  Grueling.  My poor, poor mama.  Why are we so deaf, dumb, and blind as teens?  Thinking like we have the whole world figured out? Perhaps it was just me.  No need to go into detail, right? My poor, poor Mama.  So grateful those years are far – well not that far – behind. My best friend’s daughter recently turned 13.  ThirTEEN.  In an attempt to prep my BFF for these tumultuous years, I pulled together a few items intended to possibly ease the journey for both mother and teenage daughter. Contents: Journal – To record the good memories and the bad … Continue reading

Book Review: The Apple Tree

the apple tree book

My daughters love to visit the library.  I give them free reign over the plastic covered hardcovers and paper backs and let them fill our library bag -  and their arms – to their heart’s content.  We leave with plenty of fairy tales, chapter books, cookbooks, kids craft books, and picture books every time.  We read and reread every last book up until – and past – the library due dates.  My goal for them is to check out every single children’s book at least once. We’re well on our way. Of all the books they’ve read, nothing compares to one that they can truly relate to.  One that speaks to them and brings Mama’s daily sayings and teachings to … Continue reading

Pine Cone Bird Feeder

pinecone bird feeder steps

One of my favorite things about our old house – I swear I’ll eventually stop bringing it up – was sitting at the kitchen table enjoying my breakfast and watching the birds outside.   I can’t help it, I’m an animal lover.  Especially when the animal is more afraid of me than I am of it.  And not having to clean up after them is another bonus. I often referred to them as “my birds”.  At one point I tried to name them (omg, I’m more like my mom than I thought).  (Love you Mama!!!) So here at our new place, I wanted to get on the good side of our new feathery neighbors.   The girls and I found some pine … Continue reading

Housewarming Gift in a Jar

housewarming gift jar 2

Moving sucks.  Don’t get me wrong, a new place and a fresh start are great.  But it’s the packing and unpacking, transporting, furniture getting damaged, fragile items breaking, and things getting lost that are annoying.  Am I right? A dear friend of mine recently moved a couple of weeks ago.  But wait, she just moved into this new place a few months ago.  There’s more, she’s moving again after four months.  Why all the moves?  Their current apartment needed to be renovated so management had to ask them to leave temporarily.   I hope the postal service doesn’t think all their mail forwarding requests are pranks. In an attempt to make her current temporary place feel a little like home, I … Continue reading
