Bake Along – Chewy Jam-Almond Bars

I know, I know… it’s been a while.  All should be back on schedule again very soon.  One Bake Along recipe a week. I hope. I’ve decided not to do all 100 recipes. I’m going to do 25 and then move on to a different book.  After repeatedly going through the magazine I’ve found that I’m not wildly inspired by it.  And life isn’t fun unless you’re wildly inspired. This original recipe calls for cherry preserves but I really don’t see why you can’t use your favorite flavor.  I went with raspberry this time as I’m pretty obsessed wtih raspberry lately. These weren’t super popular at home but only because my family doesn’t care for any type of jam or jelly very much.  Loved the … Continue reading

Bake Along – Toffee Crackle Cookies

In third grade, Mrs. Neal always repeated the same thing over and over again, “read the directions”.  Always. Everyday. Before recess. After recess. She was probably thinking it during recess.  Those three words stuck with me forever.  Then I had kids.  Why should I read the directions if I can most likely just guess what comes next?  I have to get the batter made as quick as possible, almost as if it’s an Olympic race.  Otherwise I have to stop and pour a cup of milk, find a glue stick, slice an apple, wipe spilled milk, wipe glue off the walls, pick up half eaten apple slices…  Then I come back to batter that’s half way through and I can’t remember … Continue reading

Bake Along – Chocolate Revel Bars

Did anyone make the peanut butter cookies from the first Bake Along post?  Here’s another recipe for you all that I think is worth a try.  They’re pretty easy to put together and the taste is quite good, especially with a glass of milk.  These bars are a cross between a granola bar and a brownie.  I made these (along with toffee crackle cookies, up next) for a family dinner, so I was glad that one batch made so many servings.  Chocolate Revel Bars (via Better Homes and Gardens 100 Best Cookies) 1  cup butter, softened2  cups packed brown sugar 1  teaspoon baking soda 2  eggs2  teaspoons vanilla2 1/2  cups all-purpose flour3  cups quick-cooking rolled oats 1 1/2  cups semisweet chocolate pieces 1  14 … Continue reading

Bake Along – Peanut Butter Cookies

I picked up this magazine on a whim while waiting in line at the supermarket last week.  I love foodgawker, but I’m a total sucker for glossy paged magazines filled with recipes.  It wasn’t until I got home that I got the idea of a bake along.  I love blogging and I love baking so I figured I’d combine the two.  No, I promise I am not becoming a full fledged food blogger.  I’ve been working on some sewing projects like a mad woman this past week (along with getting through Jenin’s party) which is why I’ve been missing in action. But I’m glad that some of you have shown some interest in this, so let’s do this.  I will … Continue reading
