“Allah to Z” Islamic children’s book

I see my children as an inspiration to me.  They inspire me to be more creative and fun loving.  To be a better person and lead by good example.  They always inspire me to embrace life’s small celebrations and appreciate huge accomplishments.

As a mother, Sam’n Iqbal took inspiration from her two young children and created a beautiful and well thought out Islamic alphabet book, Allah to Z.  Each letter of the alphabet highlights a significant part of Islamic culture and history in a way that’s fun and understandable for children.  The rhymes are meaningful and insightful.

I really loved that this book went beyond the basic and expected.  It didn’t just stop at “W is for Wudu”.  It went through the steps and made it playful.  My five year old was able to relate to weebling and wobbling and trying not to fall.  It was great seeing Jenin make connections and recognize images in the books prior to me reading the page.  “Mama, that’s cave Hira!” for letter H and “I know that surah!” once we reached L is for ‘Laylat-al-Qadr’.

Every rhyme provided an opportunity to start a conversation or add a story based on the subject.  The experience didn’t end with the rhyme.  J is for Jannah allowed us to talk about what we wanted in Jannah and what we had to do to get there. Z for Zakat showed my girls that they were fulfilling Allah’s commands when they generously saved up their coins or donated their clothes and toys for the needy.

The illustrations are so whimsical and enchanting.  Lina Safar, award winning illustrator, brings the words to life.  I fell in love with her work as soon as I laid eyes on the book.  The girl featured in the book reminded me of Jenin when she was younger with her big brown eyes and full head of curly dark hair.  The water colors and details bring a special richness to the book.

Allah to Z has just been released this month! For the first time ever it is available for purchase.  With Ramadan and Eid right around the corner, it’s just in time!  Allah to Z is the perfect addition to any family’s home library.  You can always revisit this book as there are lessons that will grow with your child.  This is one of those books that is sure to become a classic among the Muslim community.

You can purchase the book here.  It will make a great gift for any occasion or as a special addition to school libraries.

Just for This Little Life of Mine readers, each purchase comes with an activity kit that includes coloring pages, stickers, a magnet, and 2-3 project descriptions with a picture and detailed directions.  At checkout, under “special instructions”, type in LIFEOFMINE.
