Giveaway: “Allah to Z” Islamic children’s book
I see my children as an inspiration to me. They inspire me to be more creative and fun loving. To be a better person and lead by good example. They always inspire me to embrace life’s small celebrations and appreciate huge accomplishments. As a mother, Sam’n Iqbal took inspiration from her two young children and created a beautiful and well thought out Islamic alphabet book, Allah to Z. Each letter of the alphabet highlights a significant part of Islamic culture and history in a way that’s fun and understandable for children. The rhymes are meaningful and insightful. I really loved that this book went beyond the basic and expected. It didn’t just stop at “W is for Wudu”. It went through the steps and … Continue reading

Giveaway: Modest Sea
As of today, there are 51 days until summer. Are you ready? Ah summer, I can see it now. Family barbecues, fresh raspberry lemonade, and a whole lot of swimming and water play. Unfortunately though, swimming in my hijab, or head scarf, pretty much only consisted of putting my feet and ankles in the water. “Street clothes” are not allowed at any public pools. Enjoying the ocean meant rolling up my pants and letting the waves crash up over my feet. Fun stuff, huh? If you’re like me and you no longer want to sit out on all the fun, I have the solution. Enter Modest Sea Swimwear. Their alternative swimwear collections feature full coverage and moderate coverage suits. The quality … Continue reading

Giveaway: My Halal Kitchen
My Halal Kitchen, your halal kitchen, we all have halal kitchens, right? Yvonne Maffei, of MyHalalKitchen.com certainly does. MHK is loaded with fantastic recipes, great kitchen tips, and helpful information about making sure your kitchen is stocked with halal goodies. The great thing about My Halal Kitchen is that it’s focused on whole foods. The recipes bring together fresh, sustainable ingredients that produce flavorful and healthy meals. I’m constantly inspired by MHK’s recipes and posts. Tonight I’m making the chickpea and sun-dried tomato salad. I can’t wait for summer to start so I can whip up peach lemonade slush. And hello, did you see the blueberry muffins? Yum, my fave. Recently Yvonne posted a great gift basket featuring her products … Continue reading

Zeena Review and Giveaway
With all these giveaways, you’d think Eid was right around the corner. Oh wait, it is. Every hijabi knows the drill: Walk into a clothing store, pass the tops, and head straight for the dresses in search of a long and modest “shirt”. Except you know, and I know that it’s actually a dress. When online shopping, I don’t even bother clicking “Tops”. Straight to “Dresses” for me. Even then I’m left sorting out the ones that won’t work. Too tight on the bust, low revealing back, just plain ugly. Once we do find a dress/shirt that works, we still have to “hijabify” it. You know, add a long sleeve Tee underneath or a cardigan or jacket above to cover up … Continue reading

Minted Eid Card Review and Giveaway
We’re just getting into Ramadan and I’m already talking about Eid. It’s one of our biggest holidays, do you blame me? I’m all for things handmade and homemade when it comes to preparing for the Eid. Eid banners and gifts, sweets and treats. But when it comes to homemade Eid cards, that’s just not something I’m willing to touch. Quite frankly, I don’t have the time or the patience to sit and create cards for everyone in the family. Sure the girls can make them with their scribble drawings and illegible writing, but realistically I know the recipients would just dump them. And that’s wasteful. I don’t like wasteful. Enter the most beautiful Eid cards you’ll ever come across. Yes, Eid cards. I … Continue reading

Islamic Art
If you haven’t heard of Sydney based designer/artist Peter Gould, you are surely missing out. For a long time I struggled to find Islamic art that suited my taste. I was looking for something clean and modern but still had the traditional beauty of classical Islamic art. It’s when my sister Iman bought me this artwork for my girls’ room that I found what I was looking for. Andalus – Kids A few months later I had the privilege of purchasing my own piece from Peter Gould himself at a fundraiser for Jenin’s (soon-to-be, I hope!!) school. He had redesigned the school’s website and was donating half of his proceeds from the night to go towards the school! “And whatsoever you … Continue reading
