Eric Carle Paper Project

One simply cannot love children’s books without appreciating the work of Eric Carle.

The images in his books are so special.  I love the patterns, the colors, the layers. All of it.

Every week, Jenin brought home a book bag from kindergarten.  Inside would be a book, a journal, and a stuffed animal that went with the theme of the book.  Each student was to read the book with their parent repeatedly and write what they liked about the book in their journals.  Instead of going the traditional route of drawing a picture to go with her journal entry, I suggested we channel our inner Eric Carles and create pictures similar to his.

We each drew out the seperate pieces on different sheets of patterned scrapbook paper.  Then we cut out the shapes and glued in place.  Very easy, but a lot of fun.

So cute! We had a similar routine in my kindergarten this year during our penguin unit where the kids took home a stuffed penguin each weekend and wrote in their journal what they did with it! Kids had a lot of fun with it; looks like yours did too!

Thanks! It was fun to see each book and animal brought home each week. I wish we got as creative with the rest of the books. It was nice to work with her in a way that didn’t feel like making her do homework.
