Preserving memories

I spent this entire week cleaning out closets and going through drawers. I was able to get rid of a very good amount of things. Three large black trash bags and 2 boxes full. In my defense one full bag was of Rami’s clothes. His shirts always shrink! What gives? Advice please. That being said, I still have a hard time letting go of things. I tend to hold on to items that don’t necessarily have a specific place to go but have a special meaning that I can’t bring myself to part with.  The people over at Martha Stewart Living have come through for me.  Of course they did. They always do. Gotta love ’em.

In the February issue of MSL there’s a story about Darcy Miller’s “scrapbox” exhibit showing at Kate Spade’s hubby’s gallery in NY.  The entire display is to die for and I just can’t stop staring at those pages in the magazine.  You can see the individual scrapboxes here.  It’s really the collection of them all together that make them so wonderful to look at.  I can’t wait to attempt this in my own home. Here are some of my faves:

Iman actually made one of these using some jewelery from her engagement with a really pretty picture of herself. I’ll have to ask her if it’s appropriate (and if she’s willing) to share on here.  For my own personal boxes I have items from my wedding that I would like to use, the shoes Jenin wore when she first started walking, and my grandmother’s headscarves and glasses.

What a great idea. I have my husbands prayer beads and haj hat (for need of a better word!!) that I know he cherishes from his haj trip 2 years ago. I just know that this is what I will do with them!

This is by far my favorite idea I've seen to preserve things.

Can't wait to see your box with the hajj items. That'll be nice.
